The catch
Free hosting is subject to fair use, and 'fair use' is defined by the company, not by a published number. Also: the platform is free, but each dataset carries its own licence, and plenty are non-commercial.

- Use streaming mode for large datasets instead of downloading the whole thing
- Keep a copy of anything critical; a dataset repo can be taken down by its owner

This trips people constantly. Hugging Face being free to use tells you nothing about whether a given dataset may be used commercially — that is set by whoever uploaded it, on the dataset card. Non-commercial and research-only terms are common. Check per dataset, every time.
