Why it exists
Jellyfin was forked from Emby when that project moved to a proprietary licence. It is run by volunteers with no company, no funding round and nothing to monetise later — which is the structural reason it cannot do what Plex did in 2025. There is no one to decide that remote streaming should now cost money.
